When I am painting I notice many little errors in my original outline on the canvas. In this painting, the perspective of all the posters and prints on the walls has to 'ring true'. Naturally one can ignore perspective to provide a pleasing composition but I need this to be as accurate as I can make it.
Working on the background ceiling with lights. There is also a figure that is walking in the background with just a glance to the singer. The figure is very indistinct but needs to 'look' right.
I want this to be a 'realist' painting to a point, but also to look like a painting. This is why I have made the figures in the background very 'out of focus'. The lights are only blocked at this stage and will be made to affect their surrounding once the background is complete.

The first session on the hair is going to plan. It needs to dry a little before I can add more highlights and texture.

The blouse of the lady in the foreground is made from a fabric that has a sheen and, so reflects some of the light. I have blocked in her blonde hair and neck so will add the detail and nuance of texture and light during the next session.

I have just started to block in the blouse on the lady in the foreground. It is a white blouse but reflects the colours around it. I shall tighten up the high-lights and shadows at a later stage. The area to her left need some highlights also which will be added in my next painting session. In the meantime, I shall keep looking at it. This helps me to formulate my next plan of action.
